Ezzie's Star Trek Adventure

Episodes 15-20

They did time travel again LMAO. I love how casual the show is about it because what the hell fam? Y'all just ACCIDENTALLY went back to 1960? Ok. Anyways the episodes have been really fun recently and I love how casually progressive the show is for its time. Captain Kirk casually corrects the airforce captain when he goes "A WOMAN?! D:" by just saying "A crewman" and although it's played as a joke in the show you can really tell the underlying meaning behind it. Also the episode where Spock is trying to get all of the crew off of the planet when the Enterprise only has 2 days to retrieve them is GREAT. I definitely agreed with Spock the whole time, I know the point was that you have to take risks sometimes to try to get a better solution, but I think his approach on the planet was much better. He was trying to minimize casualty among the crew, and when the time for a risk CAME, he took his chance and got them rescued. Spock truther for life he's my favorite. :P

Episodes 9-15 (Plus the first reboot movie)

Accidentally left the page... destroyed my original rant... gonna cry! However, I do remember what I was going to say. I watched the first reboot movie and it was good, luved Chris Pine as Kirk and I think the movie did a great job of showing just how different Kirk would be if his life path had been altered... speaking of his life path. Can we talk about Tarsus V? We moved on from that WAY TOO QUICKLY, unfortunately a product of the times. Really reminds me of watching the OG Star Wars movies and seeing Luke just like... move on from his parents dying without even shedding a tear? Stared into the sunset and said "ANYWAYS :D." Also I knew already that I loved how progressive the show was for it's time but I really did NOT expect Kirk essentially telling one of the crew members to leave their bigotry at the door. GO KIRK WE LUV YOU T_T! I am entirely in this fandom now I know there is no escape. I've honestly been having a lot of fun with Season 1 even though the story WAS spoiled for me. I don't really mind since I should've known better than to open Tiktok with star trek in my history in any way. Those darn Tiktok edits... ANYHOW I'm really happy with Star Trek being in my daily routine now. Leonard Nimoy has a Spotify page (that you should TOTALLY check out if you haven't) and there is Star Trek MUSIC fam... Star Trek music. Ik you are excited. My Spotify wrapped is going to EAT this year. He also has music for the Shabbat and stuff which is AWESOME. I didn't know that he was Jewish, and being Jewish myself, it was a really fun little surprise when I was honestly just looking for some good ol' Star Trek music. This show is really reigniting my love of sci-fi and space. When I was little I wanted to be an astrophysicist when I grew up and I gave up on that dream when I actually got to physics CLASS but it's very hard not to fall into my roots when I'm watching this show so much. In fact, I've already been picking up some of my astrophysics textbooks. (The ones where I ignore all the math and only look at the theories LOL)

Episodes 3-9

So... they CASUALLY introduced time travel. Also, I'm getting excited about potentially seeing more into Spock's character!! You can definitely tell its the 60's behaivor towards female characters is not ideal! Especially in that one episode where Kirk splits into 2... not a fan. HOWEVER, I can definitely respect the fact that it was technically revolutionary for its time, many of the female characters actually have stuff to contribute to the plot. (There are definitely some sexist ideas though, like that episode with the wives for the miners?) I have some mixed feelings but the show overall definitely feels like a time capsule of sorts. Honestly the historical aspect is one of the main draws for me, many of the crewmembers of color (Sulu and Uhura) were some of the first people of color shown in pop culture in both a positive and (mostly) non-stereotypical light. Is it the best representation ever? Absolutely not. But it IS important and good to look back upon to see how far we've come in those aspects. Also I think it's just plain fun, a little camp, but fun. They didn't have genre expectations while they were making this show so there are some episodes that low-key don't make sense! I honestly prefer insane plot to the same old same old you get with a lot of modern space shows. It feels like we don't really have fun with sci-fi anymore, it's always all about the sci and none about the fi! Don't get me wrong, I'm a science nerd myself, but I feel like we need more places to just have fun with "scientific" ideas and get creative. I can definitely see how this show was essentially the mother of fandom. I will say though, I would NOT work on that ship if it were me, people are dropping like FLIES.

Episodes 1-3

This section of the website will be dedicated to being a shrine for Star Trek, and documenting my experience watching it for the first time! As of today, I am beginning Season 1 of TOS, as I'm writing this, I'm on episode 3. I was pretty shocked when I started the series and got a different genre than I was expecting. I'm very used to space westerns such as Firefly or, in some cases, Star Wars, but instead I got something that is a lot more similar to modern day Doctor Who. It's almost as if the original creators were going more for Space Horror, which is super awesome! I've chosen to view the series in the order of release and NOT chronological order. I feel like you get a better experience that way since it is the way people originally experienced it and because you get to see the development of culture and how that is reflected in the changes between the shows. I'm so excited to start watching this and I hope that I can meet some people to discuss the show with. :)
